One-On-One Faculty or Staff Consultation

The Professional Development Department offers personalized consults to support faculty, staff, and clinical educators across our medical education community. Whether you’re refining a course, navigating a workplace challenge, or looking to strengthen your bedside teaching, we’re here to help. Consults can be via phone, Zoom, or in-person and as frequently as needed.

Faculty Consults

Faculty members can schedule one-on-one sessions to explore a wide range of teaching and curricular topics, including:

  • Instructional design and revision for pre-clinical courses
  • Elective and Selective Rotation instructional design for clinical years
  • Assessment strategies and grading practices and conventions
  • Student engagement in hybrid or clinical settings
  • Inclusive and equitable teaching approaches including assessment and UDL
  • Creating effective self-directed learning (SDL) experiences
  • Navigating classroom challenges or feedback from learners

Whether you’re developing a new course or responding to a specific teaching concern, we’ll work with you to identify practical solutions and connect you with relevant resources.

Staff Consults

Staff members can meet with us to discuss professional growth, administrative support strategies, and workplace dynamics. We offer guidance on:

  • Navigating communication and conflict in academic settings
  • Building skills for supporting faculty and programs
  • Exploring career development and training opportunities
  • Identifying tools and resources to streamline workflows

Regional and Community Faculty & Preceptors

We also welcome consults for regional and community-based faculty and preceptors who teach at our clinical sites. These sessions can focus on:

  • Enhancing bedside teaching and clinical instruction
  • Engaging learners in busy practice environments
  • Providing effective assessment and feedback to students
  • Aligning clinical teaching with curricular goals
  • Navigating challenges in precepting or mentoring
