Point of Care Ultrasound for Rural Providers

• Prepares community-based physicians, attendings, physician assistants, medical students, and other clinical providers to use point-of-case ultrasound (POCUS) in their daily practice to answer specific clinical questions.
• Aligns with CUSOM’s mission to educate clinicians regarding best practices in point-of-care ultrasound and how to deliver improved patient-centered care in rural and underserved communities.
• Designed to reflect the guidelines of multiple specialties using research from ACEP, AAFP, ACP, AIUM, SPOCUS, APCA (Alliance for Physician Certification & Advancement), and ACR (American College of Radiology).

To provide didactic and hands-on Point-of-Care (POCUS) ultrasound training with a final scanning assessment to physicians and rural providers who use ultrasound to answer a specific clinical question

• Encourage use of point-of-care ultrasound to assist in the discernment of patient conditions
• Practice ultrasound imaging protocols.
• Distinguish type of POCUS scan for clinical indication(s)

The POCUS Curriculum for Rural Providers will be delivered  online via a learning management system associated with an ultrasound simulator.  The following table identifies the teaching strategy and rationale for each module.

Participants will develop skills and learn point-of-care imaging protocols to use as a tool for answering a clinical question during a patient encounter.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for each Module verifying formal Point-of-Care Ultrasound training.    

The module will not provide POCUS certification or credentialing.  POCUS training does not replace a comprehensive ultrasound procedure.

Anticipated deployment of POCUS Curriculum is July 1, 2021.  The seven modules will be offered consecutively beginning July 1.

Each module begins at the first of the month and must be completed by the end of the same month.

All participants will pay $150 per module. 

The Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.  CUSOM designates each module for a maximum of 5 AOA Category 1-B credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.
